I've lived in a coastal town all my life, but it wasn't until my Mother-in-law moved even closer to the beach (walking distance) that I developed a love for collecting sea glass. At first it was sort of like a contest with my husband and kids - who could find the prettier piece of sea glass. Each time we would visit his mom, we would stroll along the beach and experience the thrill of the hunt. But the more I collected, the more I began to feel inspired to want to create something with each piece I found. I was fascinated with imagining the history of each piece - was it from this century, perhaps the one before that or the one before that?!?
I have always been a creative person - ever since I was a little girl. Over the years, I've enjoyed drawing, painting, and working with clay. I then decided I'll give jewelry making a whirl. How was I supposed to know that this new endeavor would turn out so well for me? I have so much fun incorporating those little sea glass gems that I collected over the years into my creations. This passion has turned me into a self-taught silversmith and jewelry designer.
Helping with my creations are my two fat ragdoll cats - Lincoln and Remington - (Click on their pictures to read their specific jobs :)) hence the name - Fat Cats on the Beach. They love to "help" me on the workbench. Mostly getting in the way, but you got to love the curious nature of kitties! My other partner in crime in my workshop is my best bud, Bentley. He’s an English cream golden retriever who loves to keep me company wherever I go.
My daughter adds to my inspiration - she too is very creative. She is my go-to critic. Check out her Etsy shop for unique boho items: JustTheFringes. My son is an artist and welder- his ability to draw and create with such detail is really amazing. Who knows what the future holds for him? Then there is my best friend and husband of 32 years. The most loving and supportive husband anyone could ever ask for.
This gives you a little glimpse into my simple life here in Connecticut. I hope you enjoy my creations as much as I enjoy making them. For more pictures of my inspiration and creations follow me on Instagram @fat_cats_on_the_beach
